May 4-6, 2008, the University of Chicago will hold a conference celebrating the theological scholarship of David Tracy and discussing central issues in his current research. In consultation with Professor Tracy, the Divinity School has organized the conference to explore the significance of Augustine of Hippo for interpreting our contemporary theological, philosophical, and cultural circumstances. Professor Tracy is scheduled to present one of the papers himself, at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4.
The conference structure will be chronological, with sessions proceeding from late antiquity through the medieval and early modern periods to the present. But, throughout, it aims to establish a series of conversations between the Augustinian tradition, broadly conceived, and contemporary scholarship in theology, philosophy, and cultural history.
