Sandra Sullivan Dunbar is a Ph.D. candidate in Religious Ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School and a 2007-2008 Junior Fellow in the Martin Marty Center. Ms. Sullivan Dunbar holds an M.P.P. from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.A. in Ethics and Social Theory from the Graduate Theological Union, and an M.Div. from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. This essay draws on research for her dissertation project, which places the debate within Christian ethics about the relationship between agape and “special relations” in dialogue with feminist political theories of justice attending to the importance of dependency in human life.
Peter C. Meilaender is Associate Professor of Political Science at Houghton College. He is the author of Toward a Theory of Immigration. His essays have also appeared in journals such as First Things and The Cresset. He is currently working on a book about loyalty.
