Joseph Prabhu is a 2005-2006 Senior Fellow at the Martin Marty Center. He is professor of Philosophy at California State University, Los Angeles and occasional Visiting Professor of Religion at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests are quite broad, spanning metaphysics and ethics to comparative religion and social and political theory. Among his many professional affiliations are as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Council of the Parliament of World Religions and Vice President of the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy. He has received several grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and is in demand as a speaker and lecturer.
Prabhu is the former editor of the journal ReVision, has edited
several books on Indian ethics, and has authored numerous articles within
his areas of interest. Currently, he is working on three book-length projects:
Hegel, India, and the Dark Face of Modernity; Human Rights
in Cross-Cultural Perspective; and Liberating Gandhi: Community,
Empire, and a Culture of Peace; as well as an edited volume (with
Terry Eagleton), Left-Wing Christianity: The Slant Manifesto Revisited.
