Andrea Althoff is a sociologist studying religious and political movements, civil society, pluralism, ethnicity, fundamentalisms, and human rights, with a particular focus on Latin America. She received her Ph.D. from the Martin Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg, having done dissertation field research in Guatemala on the influences of ethnicity on the religious order.
Fluent in three languages, Dr. Althoff has traveled widely speaking about her research. Before coming to the United States, she taught at the Martin Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg. Since 2001, she has also worked as a lecturer for the European Academy. She is a member of the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Pentecostalism (University of Heidelberg) and the Villigst Research Team on National Socialism, Anti-Semitism, and Racism. Dr. Althoff started her Marty Center Senior Fellow research project, "Religious Identities of Latin American Immigrants and Social Cohesion: A Comparative Study in Chicago," in October 2005.
Peter Versteeg is coordinator of the Hollenweger Center for Pentecostal Studies and a Research Fellow at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he also earned his Ph.D. in Social Sciences in 2001.
