Thomas J. Curry is a colonial historian and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese
of Los Angeles. He is the author of The First Freedoms: Church and
State in America to the Passage of the First Amendment (1986) and,
most recently, Farewell to Christendom: The Future of Church and State
in America (Oxford Unviersity Press, 2001).
